art museum & Jewish film festival

Yesterday Lindsay, the nasty one, and I went to D.C. to the Smithsonian American Art Museum. We had so much fun goofing off, listening to awkward conversations by couples on first dates, writing questionable comments in the museum guest book, and making fun of some of the stupid art. The painting you see above was my favorite. It is "Land Origin" by Lou Stovall, an artist from Athens, Georgia. Isn't it beautiful?

Then we went to dinner at some Asian restaurant (yum) and headed over to D.C.'s Jewish Community Center for the 22nd Washington Jewish Film Festival. We saw the documentary "The Rescuers," which was profoundly moving and inspiring. "The Rescuers" features Stephanie Nyombayire, a Rwandan girl who is my age. Stephanie lost 100 members of her family to the genocide in Rwanda. Her aunt, uncle, and their six children were buried alive together. Stephanie now works as an anti-genocide activist. In this documentary, she pairs up with Sir Martin Gilbert, a British Jewish historian. Together they go all over the world to learn about the numerous diplomats who rescued thousands of Jewish people from the Nazis. This documentary is about the power that diplomats have in saving lives. The most exciting thing about this film festival was that Stephanie was there to lead a discussion after the film. She is such a strong person, and I admire her so much. Here is the trailer of the documentary:
